Procedure overview
The surgical procedures improves the appearance of skin and tissue after major weight loss. It usually involves various areas of the body including upper arms, abdomen, breasts and thighs.
Multiple surgeries are often required and the time for the procedures hence vary widely. Surgery can be performed on one area of the body alone or combination procedures can be done simultaneously.
The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia.
Usually this is an inpatient procedure and the patient is discharged the following day.
Temporary discomfort, post-operative swelling, soreness or tenderness in the surrounding areas, numbness of skin and bruising are possible side effects.
Infection, bleeding, wound breakdown, skin necrosis, long scars, formation of a seroma (fluid build up in the tissue), asymmetry or unsatisfactory results. Specific complications per anatomical area will be discussed by Dr Greyvensteyn during the consultation.
The healing process may take one to two weeks with full recovery in 6 weeks depending on the anatomical areas on which surgery was performed.
Results are typically very gratifying with the body contour being corrected by tightening tissue and reducing loose skin and fat resulting in patients generally feeling a lot more confident and looking much better in clothes.
Breast augmentation
Improves the size and appearance of the breasts by implanting saline or silicone breast implants.
Breast lift
Breast lift surgery, also called mastopexy, removes excess skin in and around the breast and improves breast shape.
Breast reduction
Reduces breast size and improves physical and emotional symptoms caused by very large breasts.
Tummy tuck
A procedure where excess fat and skin is removed and muscle is tightened to help flatten the abdomen.
Body contouring
Often required after major weight loss. Removes sagging skin & extra fat to improve shape and tone of underlying tissue.
Labioplasty
Reshapes a stretched or enlarged inner labia. Can be performed for cosmetic reasons, or to reduce vaginal discomfort.
Liposuction
Liposuction uses a suction technique to remove fat from, and shape (or improves the contour) of specific areas of the body.
Arm lift
A surgical procedure to reshape and provide improved contour to the upper arms and connecting area of chest wall.
