You will be admitted for overnight stay and discharged the following morning.

You may have drains inserted during the procedure on the underside of your beasts or lower abdomen. These drains may be painful and are generally removed the following morning after breast procedures and a few days later for abdominoplasty procedures.

If you are discharged with drains, the drains should be emptied twice a day at 12-hour intervals (eg. 8 am and 8 pm). Pour the fluid into a container and measure the volume with a 20ml syringe. Please document the amount drained over 24 hours and contact the rooms daily on 064 4113928 with these readings.

These drains will be removed in the rooms when drainage is below a certain volume and your suture line will be cleaned.

You will be discharged on oral Antibiotics (a 5-day course) and analgesics for pain relieve.

Apply Micropore Hypoallergic tape for 2 months after surgery on your suture lines.

One week after surgery you may start applying scar serum to your suture line twice daily and gently start massaging your scar.

Wear a surgical bra day and night for the first month, then daily for the second month (breast procedures) and abdominal binder (for abdominoplasty).

You will be booked off work for the first week but it may be extended accordingly.

For the best result, it is important to limit your movement and rest as much as possible for the first week after surgery. You may gradually increase your activities and do normal activities after 6 weeks.

You may shower during the first week, but avoid any bathing until drain port sites have completely closed

It may take 3 months for your breast shape or abdomen to settle.
